Morning at Devil's Tower
Morning at Devil’s Tower, notice the towels drying in the sun.

We woke up at Devil’s Tower, Dave snored through a thunderstorm (according to Stephanie; Dave didn’t hear it). There were some young people camping nearby who broke camp and left during the rain.

Originally we had planned on visiting Medicine Rocks State Park but due to weather we detoured to Deadwood, SD.

At the Gem.

For lunch we ate at The Gem which was delicious, we had a view of the street and the people walking around in period costumes. Dave had a steak that he really enjoyed. Excellent service and food. Dave – 6.5/7 tiles. Stephanie gives them 7/7.

We gambled away $10 each and walked out and around the town and saw the place where Wild Bill was killed.

Model trains are one of Dave’s hobbies and there was a great layout in Deadwood, a really cool display that moves and lights up for a dollar.

Most of Deadwood burned down but what you see today is still  from the 1800s.

Mount Moriah Cemetery.

We made a few purchases and then we headed over to Mount Moriah Cemetery where Calamity Jane and Wild Bill are buried. Dave gives it a 6/7 tiles. We had to pay to get in but it was worth it. We walked up to Seth Bullock’s grave, way up above the rest of the graveyard. Super steep.

A beautiful view of Deadwood. We walked around the graveyard looking at the various sections. It was a steep incline that would be almost impossible for someone in a wheelchair.

Once we were back on the road we saw a Scamp at a rest area. It was the 1st rest area in South Dakota and it had 2 older women who were very excited about what they were doing. They were overly helpful. Dave escaped and discovered the Scamp outside and had to go back in to rescue Stephanie from the women.

We now have a pile of pamphlets for SD.

Home would have been an option but we spent too much time at Deadwood.

A fast drive to Mitchell to avoid storms. 200 Wall Drug signs. It is muggy and agricultural smelling.
