June 11th, 2017. Day 11.
Devil’s Tower National Monument (KOA).
We are recording this podcast while sitting in the shadow of Devil’s Tower.
We forgot to talk about Bud in our last podcast. Bud approached us before the yesterday’s show and was looking for a place for his father (who fought at Iwo Jima among other things) to live. As it turned out, our friend Julie and Bud knew each other from High School. We then talked about bookings with Bud and he soon agreed that Stephanie knows what she is doing.
We woke up in Sheridan, WY, and hung around for a little while. The Daves talked about football and trains. Then Julie’s son David showed up and there were too many Daves.
Last night Stephanie stayed up late working out our route from Sheridan to Ekalaka, MT, and found out that the halfway point was Devil’s Tower.
There was some confusion about the last time we were at Devil’s Tower. We stopped for breakfast and gas and realized that we are getting quite a number of gas rewards cards.
We saw a lot of deer, birds, and prairie dogs. Climbing the rocks is not allowed in June but we were permitted to walk around the base of the tower.
By dinner time we were back at the camp site.
Dave snored his fool head off last night, he was exhausted. Now Stephanie is tired.
We are camping at the filming location of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, they show the movie every night at dusk here at the KOA.
Scrabble scores – Tough game but Dave lost by about 4 points.
Tomorrow we are going to visit Medicine Rocks State Park near Ekalaka, MT. The park has gotten some bad reviews and we discuss how some people can’t be satisfied. More discussion of sign-offs.
