We woke up in Richland, WA, after a good nights sleep in our host’s basement.
Out of the house by 8:30 and dropped off some CDs at Adventures Underground, a really cool local music (and more) store! Here is their website – www.advunderground.com
We drove though Oregon to get to Idaho, stopped at a gas station (that Dave recognized from our previous trip) and then at a coffee shop.
We arrived at our campsite (Boise Riverside RV Park) without incident… except for Dave’s encounter with a rock chuck (a.k.a. a yellow-bellied marmot) and a travel center attendant who told us a bad joke.
Dave got some beer and cooled it under the water faucet; then we had penne Alfredo with peas for dinner.
We are going to double-Scrabble tonight due to not playing last night.
Off to Twin Falls tomorrow but we might visit the Old Idaho Penitentiary first.
We slept in a bit this morning, as did everyone in the house.
We were treated to brunch at the Rusty Pelican (4 out of 5 tiles) in Mill Creek. Dave had the corned beef hash (with hot sauce added) and Stephanie had the Monterey omelet, it was all good except that the corned beef seemed more like ham.
Dave and Mark went to Safeway while Shari, Isabel and Stephanie went for a drive around beautiful Mill Creek and encountered some shops that Stephanie recognized from our previous visit.
Dave and Mark listened to some of the music Dave has been working on for his upcoming CD (which is what you have been hearing as background music for these most recent podcasts!).
Stephanie and Shari talked about family while Dave napped. Stephanie also gives some advice to Isabel about a career in the Arts.
We talk about having a career which coincides with happiness. We also talk about camping with the minimum amount of stuff, Scamps and small houses.
Brussels Sprouts for dinner with chicken and salad.
Scrabble from last night; Dave won.
Tomorrow the family will be back at work and school, Dave plays some gigs and we will be responsible for dinner.
We remember a recent meal with improvised Satay sauce with kidney beans and noodles.
292-287, Dave wins. He uses the word “vowel”, which has both vowels and consonants. Dave tries to use as many descriptive words as he can about the game.
Loud drunken neighbors in the cold night at Arlington, WA, and then a cold, rainy morning. We downgrade our rating of the Lake Ki RV Resort due to COLD showers (3 tiles).
Out on the road to find a warm, dry place for breakfast and WiFi, eventually we found a Starbucks.
We are staying at Stephanie’s cousin’s house in Everett, WA. Shari, Mark, Isabel and Anthony are all amazing people, they have a beautiful home and we love hanging out with them. The kids, Isabel and Anthony, are huge comic book fans and they waited until we arrived to see the new “Captain America: Civil War” movie. We went to a food store and bought candy for the movie which was at Loews AMC Theater in Linwood. It was a great time!
Stephanie reveals her connection to the comic book industry and talks a bit about her career.
We made potatoes with rosemary, onions and garlic while Mark cooked up some veggie burgers for dinner. We talk about veggie burgers. Dave had some unusual beer and cider with his meal.
We played “Heads Up”, a charades game using Shari’s phone and then watched “Jim Gaffigan: Obsessed”.
Recorded in Arlington, WA, at the Lake Ki RV Resort.
Dave won Scrabble last night by 79 points. Final score: 292-213.
Last night the sky was filled with stars. No trouble last night, ready for a 5-hour drive today.
Up at 7 in Albany, OR, and on the road by 8:40. We talk about eating at Starbucks and why. Pajamas vs. Yoga pants.
We saw an accident today, or the aftermath thereof, due to distracted driving. It was scary. Our GPS speaks in a foreign language and Dave talks back to it.
Apparently there is a kangaroo farm nearby. We talk about the RV park and what we’ve heard about it. Discussion about passing a law against Mayonnaise. We will be up early to go to Everett to stay with Stephanie’s cousins. One thing (among many) we will be doing there is going to see the new Captain America movie. We try out some new sign-offs
Slept in until 8 or so. Oatmeal for breakfast. Jump started (former musician) Anthony’s car. It is laundry day and we do computer work. We are officially past the half-way point of this tour. Spotty internet so we went to Corvalis and spent a load of time there looking for a place to spend the night tomorrow. Dave makes tuna noodle casserole (hotdish) using the camp oven.
“M” states are discussed.
We went for a walk on the “Nature” trail. It was very natural.
The KOA is filling up; it is the Memorial Day weekend. We talk about camping and RVs and the RV lifestyle and glamping. We dream about owning a Scamp.
We went to two big-box stores today, only one of them had Coleman stove fuel. At the one that wasn’t Target people were unhappy, we were. We bought new batteries for the lantern. It makes a huge difference. Stephanie talks about how much smoking and drinking she has done… none.
Dave leads us on a tour of the Target Distribution Center parking lot.
We institute a new rule; no looking up words on the phone unless challenged. And then Scrabble!
Up early (5:30) at Jedediah Smith State Park (Dave mistakenly calls it a National Park). On the road by 7:09. Hardscrabble Creek leads into the Scrabble Scores; 194 to 284, Dave loses.
Harold Comfort Memorial Bridge. Dave played a show in Roseburg where we ate and also went to the bank. The show went well and the venue was reminiscent of the dining room of the Titanic. The Wells Fargo had an overgrown guppy and cookies.
We are looking forward to seeing Stephanie’s cousin and her family.
The Albany, Oregon, KOA is a good one complete with a cat and a playground.
Albany itself has a beautiful downtown and an amazing Hungarian Restaurant, Novak’s.
We ate dinner there and give it a 5 out of 5 tile rating (this is our first rating of anything, eventually we expand to 7 tiles and Novak’s is a 7).
It was amazing. We met Dave and Jan who just moved to town and we shared our bread with them.
We walked around the downtown and then drove back to the campground for Scrabble.
